How would they act?&nbsp;Maybe you&nbsp;have&nbsp;a&nbsp;crystal-clear&nbsp;picture in your mind,&nbsp;or&nbsp;maybe&nbsp;it\u2019s&nbsp;a bit hazy.&nbsp;<\/p><div class=\"learn-content-medium-rectangle-guild-insert-pages-2\" style=\"text-align: center;\" id=\"learn-2032949896\"><div class=\"learn-adlabel\"><a href=\"\/advertise--exhibit\/\">Advertise Here<\/a><\/div><a data-no-instant=\"1\" href=\"https:\/\/onlinedegrees.sandiego.edu\/masters-learning-design-technology\/lp\/dyna\/?utm_campaign=msldt-leadgen&#038;utm_source=learningguild&#038;utm_medium=display&#038;utm_content=&#038;leadsource=Display%20Ad%20-%20The%20Learning%20Guild\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"a2t-link\" aria-label=\"Earn your MS in Learning Design and Technology\"><img src=\"https:\/\/www.learningguild.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/LDT_Learning_Guild_300x250-px.png\" alt=\"Earn your MS in Learning Design and Technology\"  width=\"300\" height=\"250\"  style=\" max-width: 100%; height: auto;\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>We asked learning and performance improvement leaders at the <a href=\"https:\/\/thelearningconference.com\/?utm_campaign=224062676-Learning%20%7C%20US%20%7C%20Learning%202026&amp;utm_source=content_251113&amp;utm_medium=article\">Learning Leadership Conference<\/a> last month, \u201cwhat makes a good leader?\u201d\u00a0See if you agree with\u00a0the answers from your peers or if they thought\u00a0about\u00a0something you\u00a0didn\u2019t:\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How&nbsp;expert&nbsp;leaders view employees<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One attendee&nbsp;discussed how&nbsp;high-quality&nbsp;leaders foster an inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome&nbsp;and valued. Another expanded on this by saying that&nbsp;a manager needs to see employees for who they really are and recognize that everyone is different because they are a sum of different experiences.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How they&nbsp;handle the tough stuff<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another theme that&nbsp;emerged&nbsp;was&nbsp;ideal&nbsp;leaders being receptive when people come to them&nbsp;with issues. Attendees used words like \u201capproachable,\u201d \u201ctrustworthy,\u201d and a \u201cgood listener\u201d&nbsp;to describe this type of leader.&nbsp;A fourth attendee&nbsp;characterized&nbsp;it as a person who&nbsp;has the ability to&nbsp;talk through challenges&nbsp;effectively.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How they&nbsp;unite the team<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One attendee mentioned that&nbsp;it\u2019s&nbsp;important to inspire and empower your team towards a collective, meaningful&nbsp;vision. But&nbsp;it\u2019s&nbsp;not enough to just do this when with the team.&nbsp;Another&nbsp;attendee said that the leadership you provide&nbsp;has to&nbsp;carry over when you aren\u2019t present with the team, so that everyone is consistently working towards a shared goal.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How they communicate<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The final theme that&nbsp;emerged&nbsp;is&nbsp;what&nbsp;effective&nbsp;leaders&nbsp;tell&nbsp;their employees. One attendee said that&nbsp;it\u2019s&nbsp;important for&nbsp;a&nbsp;manager&nbsp;to be accountable&nbsp;to&nbsp;their staff when necessary.&nbsp;Another attendee encouraged leaders to be authentic with their staff whenever possible.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Think about the perfect learning leader.
